Storage Networks

Abstract

Storage networks have traditionally been isolated from the other data center networks due to reliability and security concerns. This is changing as data centers are starting to converge storage and data onto a single network. In this chapter, we provide an overview of how data storage is implemented in large data center networks. This includes a background on storage including some new storage technologies along with an overview of storage communication protocols. Next, we discuss network convergence which allows storage traffic to share a network in large data centers that cannot afford separate storage networks.
