Cloud data center network technology will continue to evolve rapidly. In this chapter, we attempt to provide our vision on where cloud data center networking may be headed in the future. We start by discussing rack scale architecture which could use pools of modular resources to optimize the rack for certain workloads. We then discuss how memory is a key modular component of rack scale architecture, with unique performance and interface requirements, and how it may evolve using new memory technology.
