Abstract
Failures in Configuration Management Database (CMDB) initiatives have been both rampant and notorious, and yet, the values of new and emerging CMDB-related technologies are greater than ever. This chapter provides a sobering set of insights into how and why CMDB initiatives fail, but it also takes a fresh look at how the classic CMDB is evolving into a far more successful paradigm—the “CMDB System.”
