Risk Management: A Project Management Process Area at Maturity Level 3

Purpose

The purpose of Risk Management (RSKM) is to identify potential problems before they occur so that risk handling activities can be planned and invoked as needed across the life of the product or project to mitigate adverse impacts on achieving objectives.

Tip

In any project, problems impact the achievement of objectives. Resolving problems after they occur can be disruptive and expensive. RSKM is a systematic approach to identifying potential problems before they occur to provide time to determine how best to address them.
