Appendix D. Glossary

The CMMI glossary defines the basic terms used in the CMMI models. Glossary entries are typically multiple-word terms consisting of a noun and one or more restrictive modifiers. (There are some exceptions to this rule that account for one-word terms in the glossary.)

To formulate definitions appropriate for CMMI, we consult multiple sources. We first consult the Merriam-Webster’s OnLine dictionary (www.m-w.com) and the source models (i.e., EIA 731, SW-CMM v2, draft C, and IPD-CMM v0.98). We also consult other standards as needed, including the following:

  • ISO 9000 [ISO 1987]

  • ISO/IEC 12207 [ISO 1995]

  • ISO/IEC 15504 [ISO 2006]

  • ISO/IEC 15288 [ISO 2002b]

  • IEEE [IEEE 1990]

  • SW-CMM v1.1

  • EIA 632 [EIA 1994]

  • SA-CMM [SEI 2002c]

  • P-CMM [Curtis 2002] ...
