Beginnings

Novice

First day at school. The day you leave home. Monday morning on a new job. Being a novice is exciting, frustrating, and a little bit scary. It is exciting because of the possibilities of exploring and discovering. If we are optimistic about the future, being a novice is mostly a hopeful and positive experience. But novelty is also frustrating because there is so much to learn and so little time. We want to move quickly, and whatever our initial experience with a new idea or subject, we soon start to feel the resistance of the task and the world pushing up against our progress.
