Who is in charge of your learning? At first sight, this may seem quite a strange question to ask. Most people will answer that they are personally in charge and that learning is a voluntary process for which each individual has to sign up. There is, of course, a strong element of truth to this. Learning is a process that begins when we actively consent and contribute energy. However, is this the whole picture? Does learning also happen when others pressure or invite us? Think of the child legally obliged to go to school yet benefiting ultimately from the experience.
