After their conversation, Brian and Marcus made their way out to the practice field together. Even though the other players were shocked to see them getting along, the grueling physical and mental demands of practice had them quickly forgetting the confrontation that happened the day before. The next few hours were filled with the alternation of drills, whistles, and bodies moving in the formations that would be expected for the big game on the upcoming Saturday. Even with the long practice and fall heat still lingering, Brian felt invigorated, and his players seemed to feed off his newfound energy, too. Brian knew there were some lessons in all of this and he couldn't wait to get over to the Trackside Diner after practice.

The old coach was sitting in the same booth from the evening before as Brian entered and walked over.

“Looks like this could be our usual spot, huh, coach?” said Brian.

“Ha, yes. Good to see you, Brian,” said the old coach. “How did everything go today?”

Brian updated the coach on the meeting with Marcus and how well practice seemed to go. The coach was not surprised.

“Well, kid,” the old coach said, “sounds like you got a little lesson on how a coach spells the word CARE.”

“What do you mean, Coach?”

“Simple,” said the old coach. “Any coach worth his or her salt knows the way to spell care is T-I-M-E. You spent a little time on Marcus, gave him a little extra attention, and look at the result!”
