Time for reflection

Throughout this book we have included a suggestion to reflect. Here we want to explore what reflection is and why we place so much emphasis on it. It would be easy to take for granted that everyone knows how to reflect, and yet our experience suggests otherwise. Sometimes there’s an assumption that reflection simply happens, somehow. Asking your coachee how they reflect on the challenges they face can often generate long silences (and reflection) to find an answer. We encourage you to use reflection when you are coaching and to be explicit about what it means.
