Status Bars
Cocoa programs can create their own status bar items. These are views that are inserted at the right side of the main menu bar. When the status bar item’s icon is clicked, a custom view appears in a fashion similar to opening one of the menus in the menu bar. Some status items, such as the monitor resolution and airport controls, open menus. Others, such as the sound volume control, open as a slider for system volume. Some example status items can be seen in Figure 18.15 in the “StatusItems Example” section later in this chapter.
