We have already seen that publishing data to various formats and integrating diverse data systems are two of the major challenges facing a modern Internet application architecture. However, there are also other challenges that must be met. Apart from being able to integrate data, any new solution installed in a large corporation must also be able to support applications that might already be installed there. Because the Internet has speeded up the half-life of technologies, a solution must also be as platform-independent as possible so that it can survive major changes to such things as the operating system and can run in as many environments as possible.
