Is it more important for everyone in a development team to use the same IDE, or for each person to pick the one that suits him or her best? What are the implications of different people using different tools?
All professional programmers should be responsible and informed enough to select the tools that make them most productive. No two programmers are the same, and different people will naturally prefer different tools. As long as the choice is made based on practical considerations, the team’s overall effectiveness will be improved. But forcing strong-minded techies to use particular tools rarely enthuses them to work well.
