Nonlogical Methods for Commonsense Reasoning
This book uses the event calculus for commonsense reasoning, which is based on first-order logic. Why logic? What about other approaches to commonsense reasoning? In this chapter, we review several other important approaches to commonsense reasoning: qualitative reasoning, analogical processing, probabilistic reasoning, and the society of mind. We assess their strengths and weaknesses and discuss their relationships to the event calculus.
