Prepare for Off-the-Cuff Comments

The words a leader speaks are important, of course. But how they’re delivered can make all the difference. Especially in tough times.

If you’re a leader, you’ll be called on from time to time to “say a few words.” The occasions vary: Kicking off a conference or meeting. Commemorating an anniversary. Celebrating a holiday. Congratulating your coworkers or staff on a job well done. Answering a relayed question from your boss before a larger group. Receiving or presenting an award.
