TOWARD A THEORY OFSTRUCTURATIONAL INTERACTION

There are four different ways in which their work can be integrated. First, I will use frame theory as a metatheory to link these two theorists, particularly since each theorist uses the concept of frames. Second, I will look at the foundational significance of Goffmans’ interaction order for Giddens’ structuration theory. Third, I will review Giddens’ discussion of Goffman, and his incorporation of some of Goffman's constructs into his work. Fourth, I will develop some additional linkages between their work. And finally, I will outline some advantages of this blended theoretical perspective, which provides an integrated coherent perspective which integrates communicating and organizing.
