Abstract: In the 1960s and 1970s, researchers in Education and related fields conducted a series of studies exploring how teachers’ behaviors had effects on students. Of the variables explored in those studies, teacher clarity was identified as the one with the most promise for further exploration. Based partly on that optimistic conclusion, teacher clarity emerged as a significant program of research in both the Education and Communication fields.
