Sales of digital still cameras (DSCs) are forecast to reach 27.2 million in 2008, with a slight fall off to 25.9 million expected in 2009 (PMA, 2007). Meanwhile traditional still camera sales continue to plummet: less than half a million projected for 2009, the lowest total in more than 20 years (see Figure 16.1) (PMA, 2007). In fact, since 2003, DSCs have increasingly outsold traditional still cameras, prompting industry giant Eastman Kodak, in 2004, to stop selling their traditional 35mm still cameras and their Advanced Photo Systems (APS) cameras in the U.S. market.
