New buzzwords related to modern digital media include Big Data and the interrelated term the “Internet of Things” (IoT). B ig Data refers to the volume of data created, distributed and stored by way of Internet connect ions. It is important because business organizations can use Big Data analytics to understand customers in order to create new products, services and experiences (How Big Data Can Help, n.d.). Big Data can be gathered in a variety of ways, including consumer surveys, browsing behavior, social media commenting, and credit card transactions (Delgado, 2017).
