Humility and Freedom

If a family is going to institute some sort of governance structure, it should do so with a deep sense of humility. The agreements will not work without a sense of respect and freedom. The whole exercise will feel like make-work if it does not recognize that it serves things beyond the family: the well-being of its individual members and their ability to contribute to the good of the larger society.

For many families, humility leads them to recognize that what they need is not a governance system but, rather, clarity about decision-making in specific areas.
