The human condition is immersed in crises, conflict, and radical changes in nature, technology, economy, politics, and society. Large-scale changes in the earth’s climate and biosphere threaten natural life and human societies around the world. Wars continue to rage, terrorism sees no borders between countries, while poverty and hunger disasters still are a reality for millions of people. In 2020, the COVID-19 brought about a global crisis that led to millions of deaths and a worldwide economic shock, the scale of which has hardly ever been witnessed before. Even in countries with highly developed democracies and health services, death tolls were catastrophically high.
