Simulating fatigue failure in bonded composite joints using a modified cohesive zone model
A. Pirondi and F. Moroni, University of Parma, Italy
Abstract:
The chapter deals with the finite element simulation of fatigue crack growth problems in adhesively bonded joints using a modified cohesive zone model. The model developed in this work is initially presented in the case of pure mode I propagation for two-dimensional models. Then, the extension of the model to mixed mode I/II loading, using four different mixed mode crack growth propagation criteria, is described. In order to validate the model, the results are compared with analytical reference data. Finally, the model’s capability of reproducing fatigue crack growth with crack length ...
