This chapter tells the story of applications, starting with a primer on how to run them in several different operating systems. Second, we’ll look at the process used in each operating system (OS) to install applications. The next section looks at the types of applications available today and reviews some common file types. The chapter finishes with licensing issues. We’ve got a lot of ground to cover, so let’s get started!
