INTRODUCTION

The people who build and fix personal computers and the computer networks most of us have used—the techs—have many specific skills. To become a good tech takes time, thought, hard work, and a handy screwdriver.

To prove his or her skills, a tech earns industry certifications. This generally means that the tech takes and passes a certification exam and then gets to add credentials to his or her name. The most important general certifying body is called CompTIA.
