Abstract
Vehicular automation, namely, autonomous driving, involves the application of mechatronics along with artificial intelligence (AI) to assist in vehicle control. This collaboration between AI and mechatronics (blend of mechanical engineering, electronics, and computer science) has replaced conventional means of vehicle production as well as control. This manuscript explores this intersection in light of the key components, challenges, and benefits of integrating AI in self-driving transportation systems. We also highlight the advancements made, current state of the art, and potential future directions.
Keywords: Mechatronics, artificial intelligence (AI), autonomous driving, self-driving, perception, sensing, transportation, vehicular automation
9.1 Introduction
