7.1 Introduction
Modern products are becoming more and more complex and the variety and number of the resources required to manufacture products in a plant are increasing continuously. Planning and scheduling of manufacturing activities are more and more complicated and challenging. The physical plant must be organized to run manufacturing businesses efficiently to avoid unnecessary messes such as the machine shop shown in Figure 7.1.
