The basics of lighting
A significant advantage of modelling programs is the facility that they offer the design team to experiment with lighting in the development stage of the design. The calculation of the effect of light is central to the mathematics of rendering. The final model only ‘exists’ in visible form because of calculations based on the behaviour of the virtual light’s effect on the colour, shape and texture of scene objects; these features are entirely dependent upon light. Working as a designer in this space you become acutely aware that you cannot separate the manipulation of object and space from the manipulation of light.
