High End Systems introduced a digital projection system in 2000, with its video projector, Orbital Mirror Head, and a DMX controlled media server that interfaced with a lighting console, enabling video switching as part of a recorded playback with other stage lighting. This was the first of its kind and evolved into the Catalyst DMX controlled media server, released in 2002. Up until then, media servers were operated manually using a push button or T-handle switcher to crossfade between sources.
