6PRE-PRODUCTION AND PREPARATION
The process of organizing ideas, gathering information, assembling the relevant tools, and communicating with artists, producers, and management or others within your team about the impact of your design on their budget, equipment order, rigging, and safety does not change that much from project to project. What does change is the circumstances, but the process can be a repeatable template.
This chapter focuses mainly on the organizational process for a touring production. The projects change, but bear in mind that even for a corporate event, an outdoor concert, or an EDM festival, if they all involve entertainment lighting, you can basically apply the same pre-production and preparation checklist.
