How many of you out there have heard of Christmas Island? If you haven’t, it’s a small island in the Indian Ocean located here (pushpin location; map courtesy of Google):
According to the World Book of Facts:
- Christmas Island was named for the day of its discovery in 1643.
- The languages spoken there are English, Chinese, and Malay.
- Its ethnic group composition is:
- Chinese—70%
- European—20%
- Malay—10%
