The Major Database Suppliers
One of the difficulties in describing Sun’s relationship with the major database suppliers is that most of the relationships are of such long standing that the detail is overwhelming. In this section I have chosen DB2 for Solaris for a more detailed discussion for two reasons: first, the relationship is relatively recent and therefore easier to track, and second, I was directly involved in the joint engineering effort for three years from its inception and so have detailed knowledge both of the relationship and of the progress achieved during that time.
