A General-Purpose OLTP Sizing Tool
To illustrate the principles outlined in this chapter, I am including a description of the development of a general-purpose OLTP sizing tool used within Sun to assist systems engineers and sales representatives with OLTP database server sizing. The material that follows is drawn from a paper titled “Developing a General-Purpose OLTP Sizing Tool” (Allan Packer and Brian Wong) delivered at the Computer Measurement Group (CMG) International Conference in Orlando, Florida, in December 2000.
