Introduction

Human perception of naturalistic expressions of emotions is difficult to estimate. This difficulty is in part due to the presence of complex emotions, defined as emotions that contain shades of multiple affective classes. The plethora of emotion literature addresses a range of perspectives and approaches to emotions. A social-constructionist approach implies that emotions are enacted; that is, through their actions, individuals actively take part in the construction of emotions related to their interpretations of the environment.
