One of the first words that comes to mind when we think about in-car safety and security is OnStar. The company is a wholly owned subsidiary of General Motors and is the nation’s leadingprovider of in-vehicle safety, security, and information services using the Global Positioning System (GPS) satellite network and wireless technology. The service was launched in fall 1996 and is now available on all Cadillacs, Buicks, Saabs, and Saturns, all GM minivans and sport utilities, and a large range of midsize sedans from Chevrolet, Pontiac, and Oldsmobile.
