Issues Associated With E-Consumer Protection

Introduction

It has been observed that “unfair, misleading and fraudulent commercial practices are on the rise” (OECD 2020, para. 5). This has been reflected in the 2017 survey conducted by the U.S. Federal Trade Commission (2019), which reported that the number of e-transaction frauds has steadily increased, and e-transaction frauds accounted for 54 percent of the total number of fraudulent incidents. The survey also found that female e-consumers and e-consumers aged 35 to 54 were more likely to be victims of fraud than others (U.S. Federal Trade Commission 2019).
