The end of the Cold War resulted in a major transformation of the global security and strategic environment. It marked the end of superpower confrontation based on the principles of nuclear deterrence, containment and balance of power. The fall of the Berlin Wall established the preponderance of American power.1 It also resulted in the broadening and transformation of the security agenda and rise of political and economic regionalism. The global financial and environmental crisis attract as much attention, if not more, as military and defence-related issues marking a shift in the security paradigm from ‘military alone’ to ‘military plus’.2
