Place and Landscape

So much of good new vernacular design is about place making and landscaping. As Patel Taylor have shown with their courtyard housing, it isn’t the design of the buildings as such that makes the community thrive, it is their positioning around green space. In the same way, the ‘village green’ in Swindon is a huge part of why the Glenn Howells/Studio Engleback scheme pulls together so well, and why the residents feel a strong sense of community and love living there.
