Experiment for Content Production with Content ID and MPEG-7

Archive-based content production was verified from different aspects. The archive featured an automatic tape-feed robot in combination with an HDD server and a DVD server. Content ID, a global unique code, was adopted for content and time code management. Both Content ID and time code were embedded in video content by digital watermarking. In such an environment the ID resolution test and the retrieval test by MPEG-7 description were executed. The effectiveness of content production was verified through these tests.

The Information Technology Strategy Committee of Japan, which consists of IT experts in Japan, arranged the ‘IT Basic Strategy’ and then drew up the ‘e-Japan Strategy’ in November 2000. In the e-Japan Strategy it was proposed that Japan would aim to be the most advanced country regarding IT by 2005. The IT revolution in Japan commenced at that moment and rapid evolution was achieved in various fields, including the information infrastructure. In particular, the number of mobile phone subscribers reached 76,314,600 and the number of PHS (personal handyphone system) subscribers reached 5,463,100 as of April 2003. Mobile Internet Protocol (IP) access by these phones was counted at 63,274,500 units. Websites are now commonly visited by mobile phones. Figure 4.1 shows the number and ratio of Internet users in Japan.
