Phase 3 Activities: Collaborate

The third phase of the five Phases of Engagement is the time many instructors begin course interaction. Without traversing the first two stages, the interaction between students usually remains at the communication level and never truly reaches the goal of effective collaboration. It is when students are actively interchanging ideas and are working toward collaboratively solving course-related tasks that the benefits of the online learning experience are realized.

Phase 3 types of assignments normally focus on group projects and discussions with supportive rubrics for assessment. The results of the collaborative projects should represent authentic tasks that can be implemented beyond the end of the course. ...
