Most mechatronic systems have an operator interface of some sort. In some cases it is as simple as an on/off switch; in other cases it is a complex combination of computer monitors and fixed switches, knobs, meters, and other elements. In all cases, a well-designed operator interface can improve the effectiveness, reliability, and safety of the system while a poorly designed one will have the opposite effect.
