Finding Stories
Introduction
Journalists say that one of the hardest things about the job is finding new stories each day. In the 1940s and 1950s, competition among newspapers was fierce, making it tough to find “scoops” and unique angles on important stories. Today, the number of competing media outlets is exponentially larger than it was back then so it will be even more difficult to find stories that are unique to your publication.
Great reporting requires a strong work ethic, combined with an inquisitive nature and a heavy dose of tenacity. In some cases, great stories come from an odd stroke of luck, but in most cases, you can make your own luck through some of the tips outlined below.
