10 Theater of the Courtroom

The concept of language games was introduced by Ludwig Wittgenstein. His philosophy combined with Goffman’s theater analogy of performance can be applied to the courtroom as a theater scene. Storytelling by prosecution and defense differ implicitly during examinations, but the underlying stories are never explicitly told. This chapter presents two court cases from Norway, where white-collar offenders were on trial.
