4 Operationalising Critique

Introduction

Corporate environmental reporting provides corporations with a means to report on their interactions with the natural environment to their stakeholders and also to the wider community. The underpinning approach of this book rejects the view that corporate reports are simply a reflection of value-neutral and objective information, and instead seeks to identify and analyse their underpinning philosophical approaches. Such an active reading of the text is exemplified by critical discourse analysis. This chapter outlines how a critical approach can help us to understand the corporate relationship with nature.
