On Saturday, July 6, 1957, a band called The Quarrymen was playing at St. Peter’s Church garden fête in Woolton, a suburb of Liverpool in England. They were a skiffle and rock ‘n’ roll group formed by friends from Quarry Bank High School. The band’s leader was 16-year-old John Lennon. Another member of the band, bass player Ivan Vaughan, brought someone along who he thought could make the band better.
