Introduction

The Navy R&D Center San Diego is now known as Space and Naval Warfare Systems Center Pacific (SSC Pacific). It is the U.S. Navy’s research, development, test and evaluation, engineering, and fleet support center for command, control, and communication systems, and ocean surveillance. It occupies a portion of the Point Loma peninsula in San Diego.

SSC Pacific was established June 1, 1940, as the Navy’s first West Coast laboratory.
