What is no longer working for you?

I didn't have a long list, but I had a list that felt heavy.

  • I'm tired of working for a boss who doesn't get it.
  • I'm tired of taking the brunt of my boss's inability to say no to more work.
  • I'm done with feeling depleted at the end of my day.
  • I do not want to manage people who constantly think they can do a better job than I can.

If we know something is no longer working, what keeps us in that particular place mentally or physically?

For me it was the golden handcuffs and my pride. I was frustrated but I was comfortable with the familiarity of the issues I was dealing with at work. The golden handcuffs were the praise for an achievement with a promotion on the horizon. And the salary didn't hurt either. My pride was steeped in the fact that I had grown an area of the business so quickly and effectively – it was a validation of my capabilities and expertise. I did not want anyone else to get credit for my hard work. There was no way I was going anywhere without my promotion and the bump in salary to go with it. The other piece was representation.
