Learning assessments are tests of knowledge, skills, or competence. Their purpose is to measure the results of instruction.
Good learning assessments measure whether learners have met the learning objectives. Therefore, it is important, first and foremost, that the learning objectives be clear and appropriate and that they be detailed enough to provide clear guidance on what type of assessment is appropriate. People who build assessments without this kind of stringency do a disservice to both learners and their companies.
