No matter where or when you grew up, you are probably familiar with some form of the Golden Rule, or the ethic of reciprocity (Hertzler, 1934). It is a moral basis of human rights because there is value in having this kind of respect and caring attitude for one another. The Golden Rule and the “Law of Love” were given their classical statements in the West by Jesus of Nazareth.
