Deciding What to Put in Your Course

Think about your best experiences in the classroom and the not so wonderful ones. What made the moments memorable? What made learning doable? What activities kept your attention? Also consider the moments when you were uncomfortable, disengaged, or just bored. You can use those experiences to help curate materials, supplements, and activities to ensure your students have an experience that is memorable, engaging, and motivating to continue their academic journey. These are the pedagogical reasons and drive for becoming an online teacher, but you must have technology skill sets too.

Honestly, you need to have a hard conversation with yourself before you start and make sure you are ready with basic technology skills. Ask yourself these questions. Can you create folders on a hard drive? Do you know the basic skills for using document tools such as cut, copy, paste, collapse, expand, and save? Can you attach files and communicate via email?
