VI.1. How's Your Starter Switch?

Have you ever wondered what the biggest difference is between entrepreneurs and everybody else? I'd say it is their ability to be self-starters. They have drive and they have initiative. They don't need their momma, their teacher, or some boss to tell them to get up and do what needs to be done. They aren't passive people; they are active. In fact, they are pro-active, taking action before they have to, instead of reacting after the fact. Entrepreneurs are the ones who get everybody else moving.

With me, it was just a matter of having an idea and following it up. "You want a video game? Go figure out how to make one yourself." See, most people—kids or adults—would have just put on an attitude and gotten angry, like the world owed them that game or something. Some might have even decided to lift one from a store, or from some other kid ... get it any way they could, just because they wanted it, like that made it right.

But for me, that idea was the beginning of everything. That was my starter switch. It became a dream, a vision that took on a life of its own. It would get me excited and motivated because I could envision the outcome. After that, it was just a matter of doing the steps that needed to be done to make that idea come true.

At first, it just meant going to the library and reading a few books. Then I needed to work some odd jobs, so I could buy some books of my own. Friends told me I was crazy when I didn't make it to a party or down ...
