8.10. WSUS from the Command Line
In addition to its graphical user interface, WSUS can also be managed from the command line in several ways. You can use shell commands, VBScript, and PowerShell scripting exposure for some client and server elements, as well as a few precompiled API samples. Each of these is available to extend the usefulness of WSUS and its database.

There are three commands commonly used to administer your WSUS instance from the command line. Two are used at the client side to assist with client administration, and the third is used on the WSUS server itself to trigger some common tasks.
